Join us for a visit into past times and stroll through an educational 1750s French and Indian War Era LIVING VILLAGE,witness the way Native Americans really lived. Discover five different cultures in ten different structures. Primitive hunting and fishing techniques, bow making, tool making, cooking, pottery, gardening, herbs, natural dyes, and tanning are demonstrated and discussed.

School Field Trips, Group or Individual Tours, and Workshops are Available.

Objectives:During and after touring Naeskahoni Town the student/participant will be able to:

1. Identify five Native America cultures.
2. View structures from five cultures and to be able to compare and contrast cultural differences.
3. Listen to discussion and observe Native American cooking, tool making, fur tanning, and hunting/fishing techniques. Through these observations and discussions the students will gain insight into the skills people within the village possesed, promoting greater knowledge of the various cultures and their way of life.
4. Grind corn into meal using Native skills.
5. Use a primitive bow drill to bore a hole through stone.
6. See and touch a tanned beaver, raccoon, skunk, and gray fox hide and will be able to note difference in texture and appearance.
7. Listen to discussion and observe hunting and fishing techniques. (traps and fishing nets)
8. Listen to discussion of how furs were traded. He or she will then be able to trade with the fur trader.
9. Observe and identify two Native American games.
10. Listen to achieve insight into community living as cultures live as one.
11. Observe how natural dyes were made and used.

Activities

1. Tour Naeskahoni Town. During the tour, the guide will share information about 5 Native American cultures, focusing on the type of structures each culture built and providing basic information on the way each culture lived.
2. The guide will demonstrate and discuss skill various people within the village would have possesed. Demonstrations included: grinding corn into meal, cooking corn meal into mush, primitive tool making/ use, fur tanning, hunting techniques(traps used for catching game and fishing equipment-poles and nets).
3. The guide will discuss how furs were traded for household items, such as, mirrors, blankets, pots, and peices of colorful cloth.
4. The guide will discuss and demonstrate two Native American games including: Hoop Snake (roll a hoop and try to throw a stick through it) and Gaming Stones (Stone Age bowling).
5. The guide will discuss community living, emphasizing how the cultures lived together as one.
6. The guide will demonstrate how natural dyes were made and used.
